If you didn't like high school the first time around, you just might want a "do over" when the Bayview Essential School for Music, Art and Social Justice opens its doors. The Bayview Essential School will be the first high school to open in Bayview Hunters Point in close to 30 years.
The new school is part of the Coalition of Essential Schools which has been working with BVHP community members for over two years to make it happen. It will open its doors to ninth and 10th grade students in the fall of 2008, adding a grade each year until serves grades nine through 12.
As the name expresses, the school focuses on the arts and community. See an article by Mara Benitez, senior director of School Development for the Coalition of Essential Schools, in the current Bayview Newspaper.
