Community Celebrates and Remembers

Yesterday's tour of the Quesada Gardens Initiative included a festival lunch and a moving tribute to Antwanisha Morgan who we lost on March 16th to street violence on the intersection of Third and Quesada. The family of Antwanisha and other community members planted a lovely pink rose bush at the entrance of the Quesada Garden that will live to remind us of our loss and the urgency of strengthening our community.

The memorial planting followed a lively lunch at the mural site next to our main community garden. Pictured is Cyrus, who along with Raz (Skewed Catering), cooked up some truly amazing food. Quesada Gardens Initiative volunteers turned out with their blue QGI T-Shirts to talk with visitors about the project and how it has changed life in a corner of the Bayview.

QGI thanks both Colleen Flynn from the Neighborhood Parks Council and Suzanne Gavin from Friends of the Urban Forest for organizing and co-hosting, the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice for funding, Reeve Jolliffe for designing the event announcement and tour map and guide, and all the volunteers who worked hard to make the day festive and meaningful.
