The Quesada Gardens Initiative has won the Robert C. Friese Award for Neighborhood Conservation. The prestigious honor comes from San Francisco Beautiful, a 40-year-old organization working hard to enhance and protect the unique beauty and livability of San Francisco. It recognizes groups that improve the quality of life in the city with public art, gardening, civic involvement and other strategies.

Dee Dee Workman, San Francisco Beautiful Executive Director said, “The Quesada Gardens Initiative is a wonderful example of how ordinary citizens can come together to preserve and protect the beauty and livability of our neighborhoods.”

This is a proud moment for master gardeners Annette Smith and Karl Paige, and for everyone on Quesada Avenue in the Bayview Hunters Point District who has worked so hard to grow the Quesada Gardens Initiative and build community in the neighborhood.
