Ali Azad is bullish on Bayview, so much
so that he is opening his ninth resturant here in a couple of weeks.
That's good
news for Bayview-lovers given how well Ali understands business. He's been in
the restaurant industry for 24 years, and owns Max's Opera
Cafe, a fixture of the Civic Center food scene.
The
Corner Cafe, his newest undertaking, is set to open at 5800 Third
Street in San Francisco's Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood on or about
November 1st. It joins Fresh and Easy Market and
Limon Pattiserie at that address.
Pausing
during the rush of pre-opening construction and deliveries, Ali told Footprints
that "timing the opening of this kind of business is never certain. We'll be
doing a big event at some point, but want to have a soft opening very soon."
Ali's
optimism about the neighborhood's future seems genuine, but his focus is clearly
on the people who live here.
"The people in
Bayview are very nice," he said. "They deserve affordable and healthy food like
we will be serving."
The Corner
Cafe's menu will include pizzas, pastas, sandwiches and salads, all at
affordable price points (about $8 to $9 a meal). Coffee and tea lovers will
find the full range of options. Breakfast will be served on Saturdays and
Sundays.
"Once we get
going, we want to serve breakfast on weekdays too," Ali said. "We also plan to
open an outdoor seating area."
Weekday hours
will begin at 11am to 9pm. Indoor seating will accommodate up to 144 patrons,
and future outdoor seating will serve 35 more. Bring your digital gizmos, and
piggyback on the cafe's free WiFi.
Note:
The Bayview Merchants Association's monthly members meeting is
next Tuesday the 23rd at 6pm at La Laguna Taqueria (3rd and
Fairfax).
