Bayview
residents Espanola Jackson and Jose Romero
will receive recognition for their outstanding contributions to the struggle for
human rights at a public meeting of the Human Rights Commission this Thursday,
May 24th, beginning at 5:30 in City Hall Room 416.
The San Francisco Human Rights Commission's 2012 "HERO" Awards recognizes local "unsung heroes" for their outstanding contributions to human rights advocacy and equity in education.
Espanola Jackson, Southeast Community Facility Commission and Community Icon, will receive a "Legacy Award for Lifetime Achievement in Human Rights Advocacy." Rev. Amos Brown, Aileen Hernandez, and Doris Ward will also receive Legacy Awards.
Other award winners include Karena Franses, Omega Boys Club Leadership Academy, and Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC) Educational Hub.
Jose Romero, Bayview Hunters Point Community Activist and LGBT Youth/Diversity Advocate, will receive an award for "Outstanding Contribution in Human Rights Advocacy."
Other award winners include Karena Franses, Omega Boys Club Leadership Academy, and Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC) Educational Hub.
