The San Francisco Arts Commission and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission unleashed art enrichment activities on Third Street in Bayview last night. Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor Malia Cohen, and Assessor Carmen Chu were among the City officials that attended.
"Bayview understands the importance of art to community development," Mayor Lee told an audience of about 100 people gathered on Mendell Plaza. "You may have noticed that our budget has an increase in arts funding."
3rd on Third is an arts walk modeled on Oakland's Art Murmur with Bayview twists that include pop-up galleries and performances in restaurants and retail spaces. The organizers hope it will become a regular event.
The event has been well-publicized. Arts Commission program organizer Tyra Fennell credits her colleague Kate Patterson for press that has appeared in local media, including the SF Chronicle and 7x7 Magazine.
Related activities were held at Auntie April's where Not Your Grammy's Theater group performed, the Bayview Opera House where Zaccho Dance performed, and Radio Africa which created a special offer for the occasion.
