Port tour markers have sprouted on the waterfront |
The Port of San Francisco was
established in 1863 just following the Gold Rush era, while Abraham Lincoln was
president and the country was embroiled in a Civil War.
On Wednesday, April 24th at 11am,
the Port will hold a "Big Birthday Bash" at Pier 39 to
celebrate 150 years of activity.
Until the end of the year, the Port will host
other events and activities on the waterfront, from Heron's Head
Park (Pier 98) north to Hyde Street Pier. Events will highlight
maritime and cultural history.
Maritime Day on the
Waterfront, a day-long celebration, is planned for Sunday, April
28th from 10am to 5pm. Activities will include public boat tours, bicycle
tours, exhibits, lectures, public tours, a film festival and interpretive
displays.
