Sneak peek inside new Bayview library

Why is Linda Brooks-Burton smiling?
Libraries Manager Linda Brooks-Burton was the Bayview Branch Librarian when the rebuilding of the branch was just a possibility.  She has seen the process through to last night's sneak peek at the interior of the new building, and was all smiles for the occasion.

Congratulations, Linda!  And congratulations to all the community members and their friends who contributed to what is a major achievement in the life of Bayview.
There was plenty of room for a lot of library fans who turned out for last evening's sneak peek at the new building's interior.

Kacey Jurgens of THA Architecture was the lead architect on the project.

Jewelle Gomez, Library Commission President was on hand.

Supervisor Malia Cohen shares about how meaningful the library, new and old, has been to her.

Part of the vision of Koshland Fellows was to reflect Bayview's African American culture in the new building as can be seen in this detail of the courtyard walkway.

Bayview artist, Ron Saunder, contributed artwork to the building interior, including the prominent images in the courtyard at the center of the building.

The front desk inside the entryway reflects the use of wood, tile and warm colors that extend throughout the space.

Koshland Fellows made a donation to the cause.

Good news for anyone who waited for a computer at the old library: these new machines are front and center.
