The Southeast Community Facility and
the SF Public Utilities Commission are partnering with schools and
community-based organizations to host their 5th annual Family Health
Fair on the theme of healthy bodies and minds.
This year's fair will address chronic diseases such as obesity,
diabetes, asthma, AIDS, and hepatitis B. It will also promote the importance of
"Putting Family First."
Involved local schools include Bret Harte, Carver, Malcolm X,
Thurgood Marshall, and Charles Drew.
Fair organizers have kept in mind some tough realities that
Bayview Hunters Point families face. For instance, many students live in a
variety of home structures, including single parent, foster-parent, multiple
families, grandparents or other guardians. Low and very low income families
experience harsh barriers to wellness.
Last year's fair was attended by more than 200 community children
and families.
Save the date: Saturday, October 13,
2012 from 10am to 2pm in the Alex Pitcher Community Room at the Southeast
Community Facility (1800 Oakdale Avenue at Phelps).
Showcase your business: donate
healthful foods, raffle items or funds.
