Bayview scorched by sudden fire

News crews and neighbors gather on Sunday
The Red Cross has confirmed that 30 people, mostly Hispanic residents, were displaced by a 3-alarm fire that ripped through several Victorian buildings near the Southeast Community Facility on Saturday March 3rd.

The fire was first reported at 9:37 pm at 1881 Oakdale Avenue in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, and spread to the next door structures.  Firefighters had extinguished the blaze 90 minutes after arrival on the scene.

Authorities said, on Sunday, that the building where the fire started had been considered vacant, and that the cause of the fire is unknown.

Sources say that neighbors had been reporting squatters for years, and that a sofa, mobile home, and grill with food still on it were found in the back of the building.
